( 1300-1100 B.C ).
( 1300-1100 B.C ).
‘”And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.” ( Genesis 47:11 )
The city was built during the reign of Ramses II. To that end, he enslaved the Israelites.
“Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.” ( Exodus 1:11 )
This is where the exodus of the Israelites began.
“And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children.” ( Exodus 12:37 )
And they departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the morrow, after the Passover, the children of Israel went out with a high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians. For the Egyptians buried all their firstborn, which the LORD had smitten among them: upon their gods also the LORD executed judgements. The children of Israel were removed from Ramses and pitched in Succoth. And they departed from Succoth and pitched in Etham, which is on the edge of the wilderness.
