Who is Martha ?

According to the Bible, Martha is indeed the sister of Mary and Lazarus, and they were residents of Bethany, a town located near Jerusalem.

“Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.’ ( John 11:1 )”

Jesus had a deep affection for Martha, her sister Mary, and her brother Lazarus.

“Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.” ( John 11-5 )

Upon Jesus’s arrival in Bethany to share the Gospel, she extended a warm welcome and invited Him into her home to assist in the dissemination of His teachings.

‘Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.” ( Luke 10-38 )

A short time prior to Jesus’ crucifixion, He visited Martha’s home. Martha prepared a meal for Him and graciously served it. Lazarus was present as well, sitting at the table with Jesus. This event occurred following Lazarus’ miraculous resurrection from the dead.

‘There they made him a supper, and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.’ ( John 12-2 )

She demonstrated unwavering faith in Jesus, even after her brother Lazarus had passed away. At that time, she did not anticipate Lazarus’s immediate resurrection but held the belief that he would rise again on the final day of resurrection. However, Jesus surprised Martha by raising Lazarus before that appointed time, thus revealing His identity as the source of resurrection and life.
