DEBATE ON IDOL WORSHIP AND IMAGE ADORATION
IDOL WORSHIP AND PICTURES OR THE IMAGES ARE IN THE CONGREGATION IN THE CHURCH.
THE WORDS OF THE IDOLATER
“ If there are idols and pictures in the Church, we do not worship them. It is part of the good culture of the people of that house to keep photos of the members of a family in the house as a memory. Idols in the churches remind us of God’s mercy to us. To meditate on the suffering God has shed for us, and thereby to develop good character and conduct. The image of the cross helps us to hold on to our suffering without breaking down”
THE WORDS OF THE EVANGELIST
“The Bible doesn’t permit the making of concrete statues and the burning of candles. The glory of an immortal God should not be given to an image of mortal clay. There should be thoughts and meditations not looking at idols. It must be obtained by reading the Word.”
Idol Worshiper
None of the statues placed in our churches are idols. The images of the Gentiles or other religions are the idols. The idols in our churches are the mediums to remind us of the events of the Word. Looking at them brings our mind to its reality. We respect them for carrying down good deeds by adoring or worshipping such divines.
Evangelist
Even a small stone that does not agree with God’s Word is unclean. Wordly family principles, and the need for meditation, the eye of faith according to the Word when using the idol in the statues. Idols are the enemy of hope; – the hope which serves the Almighty God. When we form an image of God our faith is distorted. Those who have not seen God make a fake concrete statue and see it as God. Thus the punishment for worshiping a false god as God must be paid.
Idol Worshiper
No, never we don’t worship idols we respect forms. We see the incarnation in terms of proclaiming the biography of Christ to all outside the Church. We do not believe that the idol is alive or they have a life. When we look at the form we are worshipping the word of God.
Evangelist
Idol worshippers will never say they worship an idol. All that is shown in action is idolatry. Offering incense to the idol, garlanding it, holding the idol up high and chanting loudly with the devotees. Doesn’t everything that is praised be included in idolatry? If the castes make such conditions, they will say that is idolatrous wealth. But if you do this; Is it worthy of dignity to call it respect and meditation?
Idol Worshiper
How can it be established that the images of biblical history are related to the idolatry of other gods? It is the Gospel that shows the works through pictures. It has nothing to do with idolatry of the Bible being used for the Gospel. A picture that points to Jesus as if in reverence should also be respected.
Evangelist
The picture that is drawn for the people to understand the work of Jesus is a means of clearly revealing the events of the word, it does not necessarily draw the face of Jesus. As many people see the image and meditate on Christ, the image is worthy of respect by the people who gather in the church and the worker
